There is a lot of guidance from the Government, World Health Organisation, Public Health England and NHS. But inevitably, business owners, managers and supervisors still have questions about how they should act.
At the time of writing, the UK Prime Minister has advised that everyone should work from home if possible, avoid travelling, pubs and clubs, and all other unnecessary contact. Our most important message here is to do whatever you can to stop the spread of this virus.
This information will change so here is a link to a live update feed specific to the UK – CORONAVIRUS LIVE UPDATES
However, here are our answers to some of your questions regarding operational procedures during the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Government have advised that people should work from home if they can. Therefore, home working and rotation of staff where applicable/appropriate should be actioned immediately where you can to stop the spread but keep people productive.
If you must have people at work, having a rotating skeleton staff can slow the virus and help isolate cases and those connected to them if and when identified.
While staff are/have to be in a workplace, there are certain things you can do to ensure everyone acts accordingly…
Advice Posters
Print some posters such as hand washing, ‘Catch it, Bin it, Kill it’, and Coronavirus Guidance to put up in the appropriate places around your premises.
Meetings
Set up regular management meetings (these can be remote, use tools such as Teamviewer or Zoom to encourage social distancing while leading by example) to discuss the guidance, implementation of processes and contingency plans. Cascade procedures to your staff.
Cleaning
Implement a regular cleaning rota for all surfaces.
Hand Washing/Sanitiser
Enforce the hand washing guidance for staff and visitors.
Staff/Visitors
Read up on and follow the advice and guidance regarding staff or visitors who have/may have recently travelled from infected countries.
Absence
Make all staff aware of your absence and reporting policy, also any new procedures which have been implemented such as procedure staff self-isolating.
Follow Guidance
If you haven’t done already, go onto the above agencies websites and read the guidance.
Keep Up
Additionally, ensure you stay up to date with the ever-evolving guidance as you have a legal duty to ensure the health, safety and welfare of your employees and visitors.
